Responding to students numerous complaints about the M.S. 328′s less than savory lunch, teachers and students banded together to improve their lunch time repast. Through photojournalism, investigative reporting, and survey analysis, students explore the multidimensions of school lunch. School Food for Thought encourages critical investigation of the food our public schools serve and how it can be improved.

We invite students, parents, teachers, and other individuals to contribute freely.

When I think about school lunch food I think its not appealing to eat. Sometimes I say they should change it up a bit. They should suggest healthy food. They should offer 100 percent juice. And should stop offering processed food. Processed food is unhealthy for our health. Some kids get obese to school lunch. And sometimes parents sue schools because of children getting obese.

the school food shoould try something new! the school should put up 100% juice and milk so you can have a choice to pick your own drink. and the lunch ladies should try to be more safe with the food. for example, last time i ate the lunch food i got sick to my stomach. they should also add new fruits such as plumbs, and grapes.

The food in the luchroom is okay but not great I think it could use more out door foods instead of proceesed foods because sometimes the process foods get people sick and the students like to bring there own luch. But other wise it is soso but not delicious or terriable.

When I think about the nutritional issues facing our students, my first thought isn’t about our cafeteria, but rather about the Tropical Fantasy soda, sugary drinks, and candy that our students bring to school and eat in the morning.

Ironically, the food typically reserved for “lunch detention” at our school (peanut butter & jelly sandwiches) was my every day meal as a student at a school outside of Philadelphia. My mom made my sandwiches before going to work and I brown-bagged it on a daily basis. Honestly, sometimes I think that the free meal that our students receive here is not so bad. The pizza, chicken legs, mashed potatoes, and other warm meals look pretty good. I’m not sure how nutritious they are though.

I eat from the halal truck almost everyday.

    • Lilv1293

Sean, how do you think the food fromt he halal truck compares to cafeteria food in NYC public schools?

      • Gam2137

I’m pretty sure the meat these kids are served isn’t Halal and not even Kosher
